Another matter which crossed our minds was that if we delayed – say, by a day or two – the crop would be that little bit higher, it might have rained (making the surface boggy) and the weather and wind might not be as favourable as they were on this particular day. It certainly wouldn’t be a good idea to take off with the wind favouring a direction towards the dreaded cables.
Review of witness statements and a video revealed that the aircraft initially lifted off and climbed out of ground effect; it subsequently descended in a nose-up attitude into trees about 250ft beyond the departure end of the runway. Examination of the wreckage revealed that the flaps were in the fully extended position and that the flap position indicator was indicating the down position (fully extended). No other pre-impact anomalies were observed with the airframe or engine that would have precluded normal operation.

But the other major factor is that the high drag of a side-slip bleeds off kinetic energy beautifully… always try to crash gently.
